Sarcopenia: rastreio, diagnóstico e manejo clínico

Resumo

A última década trouxe grandes avanços acerca do conceito e do melhor entendimento sobre a sarcopenia. Atualmente, a sarcopenia é reconhecida como uma doença muscular e de natureza multifatorial e sistêmica, cuja redução da força muscular é o determinante principal para disparar o gatilho de sua investigação diagnóstica. Atuais evidências enfatizam o impacto da função muscular em detrimento à perda de massa muscular, assim como ratificam o impacto terapêutico da reabilitação nutricional e física como pilares da intervenção. Apesar de muitos avanços, a sarcopenia continua negligenciada e subtratada na prática clínica regular dos pacientes idosos. Desta forma, esta revisão narrativa tem como objetivo documentar os principais instrumentos de rastreio e diagnóstico, assim como citar as evidências mais recentes no que se refere ao manejo terapêutico da sarcopenia na prática clínica.
